Fun Fact: Do you know what is known as Scotland of Asia? In case you don’t, let us tell you it’s our own Vagamon. Vagamon is a hill station situated in Meenakshi and Kanjirapally Taluk of the Kottayam district and Peerumade taluk of Idukki district of Kerala. A quiet town untouched by commercialisation lulls the tourists with its lush green ambience. It is listed on the Nation Geographic Traveller’s directory of 50 most attractive places in India. The geographical features are mostly hilly bald areas with lush meadows. The place has a cool climate even on the summer days.

By Flight: The nearest airport is the Kochi International airport (75 Kms from here). You can hire a bus, cab or taxi according to your preferences.
By Rail: The nearest Railway station is Kottayam (64 Kms) and Madurai happens to be the second nearest. Regular taxis, cabs and buses can be fared.
By Road: Direct Buses from Cochin, Madurai, Munnar, Trivandrum and Kottayam are available and can be booked at any Travel website.
Ulipooni Wildlife Sanctuary is a far from crowd, one of the best sight-seeing and picnic spot. it is also deemed as one of the best boating spots for couples.
Barren Hills gives an exhilarating experience and is a popularized spot from trekking for children with a meagre entry fee. In Malayalam the Barren Hills are known as “Motta Kunnu” which means like the shape of the eggs. Egg- shaped grass covered mountains are great for walk around the evening.
Pine Forests are another light spot for solitude-seeking –nature- lovers; specifically the lower hills are very quiet and aloof.
Kurisumala Hills, Thangal Hills and Murugan Hills are a devout symbol of co-existence of three faiths (All of the three hills being from different faiths.)
Kurisumala Ashram is a must see spot for all those visiting Vagamon. It is located in the heart of Sahya ranges. Although, a Christian Monastery it preaches of Hindu spirituality.
Vagamon is the only place in Kerala which hosts Ultra Trail Marathon during January organized by a non profit organization. Thus, it gives you an extra reason to visit the place around January.
